As a 50th year commemoration, Last Psalm production is honored to partner with groups, organizations, and individuals across America to salute and commemorate the life of the great Human Rights Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Urban Socio Drama Trashing the King is set in Memphis, TN. a few days prior to the April 4, 1968 assassination of Dr. King. The play gives a factual account of the situations and circumstances surrounding the boycott by 1,300 Memphis sanitation workers. Griffin Thomas, a fictitious character, is working to organize his fellow sanitation workers and community leaders. In the midst of all the chaos Griffin’s brother-in-law comes to visit from Clarksdale, MS in an effort to further his singing career. Griffin is frustrated with him and gives him the ultimatum to get involved or get out of his house. Trashing the King pays tribute to the life of Dr. King, acknowledges the courage of the Memphis sanitation workers and the Memphis community. The culmination of this play will stir each viewer to go forward to play a part in the worlds change for good.
